When you’ve just returned from a long RV trip, cleaning is probably the last thing on your mind. However, cleaning your RV after each trip is very important. Not only does it help get your camper ready for the next adventure, but it also ensures that your rig is properly maintained. That’s why Price Right RV has created this guide to cleaning your RV after a trip.

1. Air the RV Out

Always air out your RV after a trip, especially if you plan to put your camper into storage afterward. If you want to add a pleasant scent, try adding plug-in air fresheners to various rooms.

2. Start the Laundry Now

Remove any soiled clothing, towels, washcloths, and sheets and launder them. If you time things right, they should be dry by the time you finish so that you can put them back in.

3. Remove Perishables

Remove any trash or perishable food from your RV so that you don’t return to pests and rotting smells the next time you go on a trip. Give your refrigerator, freezer, and cabinets a thorough inspection, and wash any used dishes.

4. Unpack Items

The next step is to unpack your RV. This process can be greatly simplified by designating beforehand which belongings you want to remove from the RV and which belongings can stay long-term.

5. Vacuum

Now that the floors are cleared, it’s the perfect time to vacuum! This will remove any dirt that may have tracked in during your trip, as well as remove crumbs that would otherwise tempt pests into taking up residence in your RV.

6. Clean The Bathroom

Thoroughly clean your bathroom, and deal with any signs of future mold or mildew buildup. This is also a good chance to restock any toiletries you keep in your RV’s bathroom.

7. Tend to Your Awning

RV awnings tend to collect bird droppings, tree sap, and other debris. Spray down your awning and wash it with soap to prevent stains from forming.

8. Empty Your Tanks

After you’re done with the awning, fully empty and clean your camper’s holding tanks. Your RV owner's manual should have additional information on how to properly clean the tanks.

9. Wash Your Camper

Finally, wash the outside of your RV with gentle soap. This is also a good opportunity to inspect the seals and battery connections. Be on the lookout for any dents, cracks, or rust as well.
